Will I be “blackballed” in the oil industry if I make a claim or file a suit?

Miles A. Matt:  Many of our clients who are injured in the oil and gas industry ask us, “If I file a lawsuit, will I be blackballed in the industry, if I try to return to work in the oil and gas industry?” The answer is, probably not. It depends on a number of factors.

Now, the employer who you were working for when you were injured will likely not rehire you. However, if you are released by the doctor, depending on any disability that you have, if any, and your age, education and training, you will likely be hired by other oil and gas employers, who won’t hold that against you.

Again, one of the important factors is whether you’re left with any kind of disability, but basically, if you can do the work, you will likely get hired. The fact that you’ve had a lawsuit is more than likely not going to be held against you. A lot of that is a function of how busy the oil and gas industry is at the time you’re looking for work. Basically, if you can do the job, you will likely get it.
